The New York Yankees have been linked with All-Star-caliber bats throughout the offseason. However, the AL East franchise also needs rotation pieces ahead of the 2026 season as several Yankees starters are dealing with injuries.
Amid their need for pitching pieces, the Yankees have been linked with 27-year-old Miami Marlins pitcher Edward Cabrera, per MLB insider Jon Heyman of the New York Post. However, the Yankees are facing competition from the Chicago Cubs and San Francisco Giants for Cabrera’s signature.
“Yankees are talking to Marlins about Edward Cabrera, a terrifically talented pitcher coming off excellent year (3.53 ERA),” Heyman wrote. “Cubs and Giants (and others) also believed interested. Marlins pitching depth allows them to consider. @Ken_Rosenthal 1st mentioned NYY link.”

Meanwhile, the Pittsburgh Pirates remain on the lookout for powerful bats in the offseason and the franchise have reportedly turned their attention to veteran slugger Eugenio Suarez.
Suarez became a free agent after his 49 home run season in 2025. The Pirates could use Suarez’s power as they ranked 30th of 30 teams in home runs (117), slugging percentage (.350), and isolated power (.119).
However, the veteran infielder/designated hitter is projected to receive a $60 million contract in free agency, which could make things tough for the Pirates, who are not known for handing mega deals to free agents.
Eugenio Suarez slumped after trade to Mariners from Diamondbacks
Eugenio Suarez had a strong first half of the season with the Arizona Diamondbacks, slashing .248/.320/.576 for the Snakes. However, his production dropped significantly after he was traded to the Seattle Mariners at the trade deadline.
Suarez slashed 189/.255/.428 with 22 extra-base hits and 79 strikeouts in 53 games with the Mariners. The veteran slugger finished with a .228 batting average and a .298 on-base percentage for the season and had one of the worst strikeout rates in the league.
